After playing as a cover band at local shows for a few years, The Electric Company began to focus on more original compositions. The members of The Electric Company are now university students amassing campus-wide prestige. Ban, and Iron d influences range from Metallica, MegadethMaiden, to Dream Theater, Satriani, and Symphony X. The Electric Company has played in venues such as the University of Prince Edward Island’s Marion Hall, the Kensington teen drop-in center, rec center, and rink, the Borden Legion, the Borden-Carleton rink, Kinkora Regional High School, the Kinkora Kanata Club, and Dave’s Lounge. The band participated in the summer 2003 "Peace of Mind" peace concert, with proceeds supporting Canada's Warchild Foundation. The band has also been involved in Thrushfest 2003 and 2004, an annual rock concert showcasing the talent of several Atlantic bands. In April of 2004, The Electric Company performed in the first annual Music Week New Brunswick Showcase, in Moncton. The Electric Company has been involved in a lot of online activities. They were featured on the “Jill no Jack” radio show on May 21, 2004, hosted by SongPlanet.com. They were also given the chance to be a part of a BMX TV special, thanks to Mperia.com. They are actively involved on the sites www.songplanet.com, www.mperia.com, www.talentmatch.com, and www.kickinthehead.com. They have bios on each one of those sites, and most of their music is available also. They are also listed in the Canadian indie band directory, www.indiemusic.ca. The Electric Company recently rocked Myron’s in Charlottetown to a great crowd. They were also showcased at the Heritage Pub in Summerside, P.E.I. on originals night, and packed Melons in Charlottetown during their last few weeks of business. The band was profiled in the April 2004 edition of P.E.I.'s arts and entertainment magazine, The Buzz. As well, the band is frequently played on campus radio, was reviewed by Mount Allison University’s independent student journal as “musical wizards”, and the band’s music has been described by recording engineer Bob Stright as “a musical journey”. After hours of composition amidst a sea of empty coffee cups, The Electric Company has also managed to release their first independently produced album. Imprisoned, recorded through Sandcastle Recording Studio, contains fifty-two minutes of tight, energized music. The band has already sold an impressive number of copies of their debut album, believed to be around the 350 mark, with cover art by Prince Edward Island artist Nadene Beyerbach. The Argosy has stated, “The Electric Company has already released a CD better than Metallica’s St. Anger!” Imprisoned is currently available through the band by contacting the_electric_company@hotmail.com. |
